Gezi – Oscillating Fields

Public spaces are taking an increasingly important role in urban space and society. On the one hand, they are increasingly under the influence of commercialisation and surveillance, and on the other hand, they are enormously important as a space of self-definition and cultural exchange for a civil society.
The square serves as a space for meeting, communication, supply and transport.
The thesis deals with the redesign of Taksim Square and the adjacent Gezi Park. The design is intended to provide space for social exchange and provide a stage for gatherings, art and culture. The project deals with architectural control of enclosure and openness of the built landscape. The aim is to design the park and the square in a way that connects both existing structures and new elements.
