This course takes place as part of a multi-phase realization project. A new hall of residence for international students is currently under construction in Karmelitergasse in Innsbruck. In cooperation with the city of Innsbruck, the opportunity arose to design the public space around the student residence and to create a socially and ecologically innovative open space in the center of Innsbruck.
The students are developing objects with different functions, from multifunctional street furniture and planting systems for urban gardening to housing options for various forms of living, and are dealing with a wide range of users beyond purely human use. In order to create the necessary expertise for this, we will exchange ideas with specialists from other faculties (zoology, botany, etc.) over the course of the semester. Particular attention will be paid to the innovative use of material processes and ecological material systems, so the course will look at the landscape itself as a material to be incorporated and examine how it interacts with other material systems. The aim is to develop highly innovative design solutions that deal in depth with the processual nature of nature and view the task from a holistic volumetric, temporal perspective.
